Building Strong Relationships with Jurisdictions

Through ongoing and meaningful engagement, governance committee meetings, targeted consultations, workshops and more, Canada Health Infoway (Infoway) has built strong relationships with Canadian jurisdictions. These efforts have helped establish a clear understanding of the care delivery and data-sharing challenges experienced faced daily, while also identifying opportunities for interoperability and digital health advancements to address in the coming years.

Partnering for Progress

Patient Access is essential because it allows individuals to control and engage with their healthcare in a more proactive way. It enhances communication with providers, supports better decision-making, and fosters collaboration across the healthcare system, leading to improved health outcomes. The ability to access health data also reduces the need for duplicate tests and unnecessary visits, ultimately improving efficiency and reducing costs.

Jurisdictional Spotlight – Alberta

We are proud to announce a significant milestone in advancing connected care through Infoway’s Vendor Early Implementer Program, achieved in collaboration with Microquest and the Government of Alberta.

The program was created to propel the priorities outlined in the Shared Pan-Canadian Interoperability Roadmap, focusing on the Patient Summary Initiative and utilizing the Patient Summary Canada (PS-CA) specification.

The Vendor Early Implementer Program is designed to accelerate the adoption of interoperable digital health solutions. Participating vendors validate their system conformance against specified standards, such as the Patient Summary specification. This process not only advances Canadian interoperability but also supports vendors with a sustainable, scalable approach to national and local expansion.

The program consists of several milestones, each tailored to validate and support vendor solutions within national conformance standards and jurisdictional infrastructure. These milestones include specific deliverables and assessments, ensuring vendor systems meet predefined criteria and align with national and jurisdictional requirements. By completing these milestones, vendors demonstrate readiness to contribute to connected care, benefiting healthcare providers and patients across jurisdictions.

We are excited to announce that Microquest, the first vendor to participate in the program, has surpassed a significant milestone by demonstrating their solution’s conformance to the pan-Canadian Patient Summary Specification (PS-CA). Specifically, Microquest's "Healthquest EMR v4.4.50" has achieved conformance for version 1.1.0 of the Patient Summary specification (PS-CA 1.1.0 DFT-Ballot).

This milestone paves the way for Microquest to enter a tailored testing environment within Alberta’s healthcare infrastructure, leading to clinical adoption where their systems will actively support clinics submitting Patient Summaries.
