Given the current state of our health system, initiatives must deliver value through near-term, incremental benefits wins rather than waiting for the long-term outcomes of transformational efforts. Rather, measurable progress helps to build momentum while addressing immediate needs.

An Iterative Approach to Progress

Infoway’s strategy is based on an iterative approach of advancing interoperability and ensuring incremental benefits are realized at every step for all stakeholders.  

This includes working collaboratively with jurisdictions and other key stakeholders to develop the key interoperability assets and capabilities that will enable: 

  • higher quality data
  • greater patient access to their data 
  • more efficient data sharing between providers 
  • and ultimately, better health outcomes for Canadians.  

Connected Care Initiatives

Patient Summary Specification

A patient summary provides a snapshot of key healthcare information from a patient’s record. It includes a minimal, standardized set of clinically relevant data accessible to both patients and healthcare providers.

HALO

HALO is a standardized technology framework that allows approved third-party applications to seamlessly integrate and coordinate with authorized clinical applications like EMRs and other point-of-care (POC) applications.

eReferral/eConsult Specification

An eReferral is an electronic system that creates, sends, tracks, and manages patient referrals, where a healthcare professional directs a patient to another for care or services.

Pan-Canadian Health Data Framework

It is a single cohesive product that aims to improve data quality and consistency leading to more trust and use of data that lays the foundation for interoperability among health care systems in Canada.  

Pan-Canadian FHIR Exchange Specification

This specification addresses standardized sharing of vital patient information for the benefit of health care providers and patients using FHIR based information exchange.

Organ Donation Transplant

Infoway, in collaboration with CIHI, is leading pan-Canadian modernization initiative to help address challenges facing the Canadian Organ Donation and Transplantation (ODT) system.

Pan-Canadian Core+ Specifications

The pan-Canadian Core FHIR Profile Set (CA Core+) is based on HL7 FHIR standards and expresses the Canadian Core Data for Interoperability (CACDI) as FHIR profiles.
