Enhancing Nursing Documentation with Standardized Terminologies

hero1.jpg

The Canadian Nurses Association has endorsed the use of standardized clinical reference terminologies to support consistent and interoperable nursing documentation across Canada.

These include:

  • International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP)
  • Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine – Clinical Terms (SNOMED CT)
  • Canadian Health Outcomes for Better Information and Care (C-HOBIC)
  • Logical Observation Identifiers Names and Codes (LOINC) Nursing Physiologic Assessment Panel.

The adoption of a standardized terminology in EHRs for nursing, in all care settings, will advance the health outcomes of Canadians and our Canadian health care system.
