Content standards relate to the data content within exchanges of information. They define the structure and organization of the electronic message or document’s content. This standard category also includes the definition of common sets of data for specific message types.

Connected Care Content Standards

Content standards supported by the Canadian Standards Release Centre:

Primary Health Care Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Minimum Data Set

The Primary Health Care Electronic Medical Record Minimum Data Set (PHC EMR MDS) increases the availability of structured coded data in EMRs and supports performance measurement for clinical and health system use.

Nursing Data Standards

The Canadian Nurses Association have endorsed the adoption of standardized clinical reference terminologies.

Pan-Canadian Organ Donation and Transplantation (ODT) Minimum Data Set

Provides pan-Canadian information on vital organ donation and transplantation, with the goal of enhancing research, treatment and patient care. 

Pan-Canadian Health Data Content Framework (PCHDCF)

Defines how data should be captured and stored, as well as what data should follow patients from one care setting to another. Essential for information and decision-making in clinical care planning, resource management, population health and health system use. 

HL7 Clinical Document Architecture

Used for the exchange of patient summaries and other medical documents.
